Before and After
Hello friends. It’s Trivia Tuesday! It’s also Fat Tuesday. Also Pathetically Beg Your Readers For Recommendations on Tumblr Tuesday. And Lost Tuesday. And Men’s Olympics Figure Skating Short Program Tuesday. Big Day. This week we have some before and afters, which are always the perfect intersection of corny and fun.
- A Macedonian conqueror who threw great parties in the 1920’s?
- Anything that can go wrong will - and it will be a Gerard Butler movie.
- A conversation with a nocturnal creature in a band spending saturday and sunday with a dead guy?

Before and After: The Musical
You know how this works kids. Let’s dispense with the lead up. I’m too tired to live. All the components of the answers are songs or albums or artists. Hit it.
- Do the Hippogriff with three ladies who can sang.
- Young folks are just ordinary people.
- Fiona Apple and Gavin Rossdale create an engineering masterpiece.
- Lynyrd Skynyrd and Nirvana both get a whiff of Norman Greenbaum’s young flying ghost.
- Bruce Springsteen and Courtney Cox watch a double feature of The Wizard of Oz with a Pink Floyd soundtrack and Breakfast At Tiffany’s with a music-only soundtrack
Numbers 4 and 5 are Threefer Sutherlands.
This weeks prize is a real gem, provided by Vicky’s spring cleaning: A Data action figure.

Before and After: Potent Potables
I have it under good authority that Before and Afters are pretty popular amongst the Trivia Tuesday constituency. And you know whatelse you guys like: Booze. So why not combine the two? Each of the answers contains a reference to some sort of alcohol. It might be the before, it might be the after. But it’s in there. Por ejemplo: If I said “40 ounces of nooks ‘n crannys”, you would say “Olde English Muffin”. Got it? Good. Go forth and answer.
Get as many as you can. Number 11 is a bonus - I worked on these with one Miss Natface and she was pretty excited about number 11, even if it’s a bit difficult. Two points if you can figure it out.
- Drink this beer going backwards; so good it’s Bad.
- This Jamaican beer went a little out of its way to found the first Nordic settlement in Greenland.
- Splash of rum, splash of lime, splash of martial arts.
- Try this vodka based drink if you’re a funny octogenarian who hates the Eagles.
- Mix One part Dustin Hoffman, One Part Emma Thompson and One Part Galliano to get this drink.
- Don Draper’s favorite drink, after getting itself a loudmouthed agent.
- This sweet drink might be fashioning clothes for Lady Gaga… in heaven.
- Henry James loves this ghostly orange juice drink.
- This popular hangover cure might also need to track down some bail skippers.
- Try this drink, also known as “the blue label roundhouse kick to the face”.
- This Australian new wave drink has got a good dose of that Ol’ Janx Spirit. We bet it never forgets its towel.
I wish I could send the winner some booze in the mail, but apparently that’s not entirely legal. So your prize will be… something else. Something awesome. Trust. Maybe a lock of Conan O’Brien’s hair since I’m going to see his show tonight. MYSTERY PRIZE IS THE BEST PRIZE.

Before And After: We Read Stuff
At least one portion of today’s Before & Afters will contain some literary reference - a book, an author, a genre, a…something else that has to do with literature.
- A psychedelic, transcendental jam band at a New England boarding school?
- A British poet with a penchant for $1,000/hr hookers?
- The Beatles first hit about artificial pets?
- The story of a catholic prep school student as he prepares for Martians to invade?
- This Maryland representative must be pretty busy with congress and publishing the most English language books.*
* Warning: Number 5 is kind of ridiculous.
Vicky has given me a bag full of wonderment and oddities and from there I chose today’s prize - a fetus cookie cutter which would be super great if you’re planning a baby shower… or a baby-eater shower.
